Imagine going through your day without being able to read standard print. Do you want to make a difference in people's lives without leaving your house?
Share your love of reading with children and adults who are visually impaired or print disabled by orally recording textbooks and other forms of printed materials using a computer (PC or MAC) according to Library of Congress guidelines.
Volunteers use their home computer and specialized software to make the recordings and must be adept with computer technology and have a good recording voice. Volunteer 8 to 10 hours a week any time of day without walking out of your house!
Requirements:
- Adult (18 + Years).
- Precise enunciation and clear diction.
- Able and willing to read aloud,
- Able to learn and follow the specific guidelines for audio recording.
- Good reference skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Willing to read a wide range of materials such as textbooks, novels or magazines.
- Long-term commitment (at least 12 months).
Time Commitment:
This is an ongoing and long-term commitment. We ask for a minimum of 8 to 10 hours per week.
Training:
Training includes five training sessions at our office; audition required. Office open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday; 9:00am to 4:00pm.
Location:
At Home, or at our office in the Central Library Building in downtown Milwaukee.
