ABLE (Audio & Braille Literacy Enhancement) believes that print should be accessible to everyone, including people who are blind, visually-impaired or print disabled. Working with trained volunteers, we transcribe print materials into braille, audio, and tactile formats to enhance literacy, dignity, productivity and independence.
This video portrays an overview of ABLE’s history, showing shots of the downtown library building where ABLE is housed, a picture of Sister Melmarie Stoll (one of our founders), and a historical picture of staff reading braille. Cheryl Orgas, Executive Director, is interviewed within ABLE’s office space. Pictures of her as a child, and braille books that we have transcribed are featured. Video of our sound studio being used by staff and volunteers is also shown. Tactile graphic examples are shown, along with an action shot of the tactile graphics printer printing a tactile. A collage of many of our volunteers is shown. As Cheryl talks about the importance of donating to ABLE, video is shown of children and adults reading braille and tactiles and using a phone to listen to an audio book are shown. The video ends with information on how to donate to ABLE.
