In 2025 Audio & Braille Literacy Enhancement (known as ABLE) is celebrating 60 years of service to thousands of blind, low vision, and print disabled individuals in our community. Each year, ABLE transcribes thousands of pages of print materials into braille, audio, and tactile formats. Projects might include a tactile (touchable) map of Africa, chapter books transcribed into braille for a fifth grader, or a book series by a Wisconsin author recorded in our state-of-the-art ABLE Sound Center.
On October 23, 2025 we will celebrate this milestone anniversary and honor our volunteer team at a luncheon at Milwaukee’s Italian Community Center. As a recipient of ABLE’s services in my own childhood, I know how important it is for blind students to have access to the written word.
