ABLE works to provide audio access to print materials that would otherwise be inaccessible to persons who are blind, visually impaired, or print disabled. Materials are produced with the help of our volunteer narrators.
Our goal is to meet the needs of individual clients. Finished projects are delivered via digital cartridge, thumb drive, or digital file. Most items are designed to be played on digital cartridges, which can be used with the Digital Talking Book Players supplied through the Wisconsin Talking Book and Braille Library.
This video features ABLE’s audio services. It begins with our logo then features our Audio Manager Stephen Strupp talking at his recording studio desk. The interview also shows a picture of the audio cartridges used, and a montage of pictures of our fantastic audio volunteers. A clip of Merete Mohs reading in the sound studio is also shown. Merete is then shown being interviewed. As she talks, images of books read by Merete are overlaid on the screen. The video then shows Stephen, along with clips of an at-home volunteer, showing her making corrections to the recording. The next video sequence is of Merete in the studio working with Stephen on correcting the recording. Images of different media items we regularly record are shown as Stephen speaks. The video ends showing a young girl listening to an audio recording followed by the donation page on ABLE’s website and an image of our QR code leading to our donation page.

To the man who recorded “Ill-Met by Moonlight” for me: Thank you so much. What a wonderful gift. I stayed up until 4:00 a.m. listening. I re-lived the experiences described in the book, and my own experiences as an archaeologist in Crete. Thank you for your brave efforts with all of the Greek names for people and places in the book.
